A note about moving aroung
It is simpler to move around in Thailand than you might expect. Buses are fast, well-maintained, and air-conditioned. Buses are also available for women only, an attempt by the government to help protect female passengers.
Trains are comfortable and run on a regular schedule. Locally, tuk-tuks (rickshaws with motors), small pick-ups and bicycle rickshaws are utilized to get around. You can also rent a motorcycle or a car in any major city.
National festivals and holidays
New Year – Buddhists celebrate the New Year in mid-April by “bathing” Buddha. During this period, quite a bit of water is tossed around.
Bun Bang Fai Rocket Festival takes place during the second week in May. It is a traditional local festival that has been celebrated for hundreds of years. Locals wearing traditional costumes parade the rockets to the launch site, where folk music is played during the launch.
Phi Ta Khon Festival takes place in June. It is a unique ghost festival that takes place in Dan Sai district of Loei Province. It includes a masked procession, music, dancing and a contest is held to choose the person who is wearing the best mask.
That’s it! I’m booking my Thailand trip!
